The energy spectrum of an electron in a spherical potential-hump heter
oinclusion with a large effective mass is shown to be characterized by
a set of quasidiscrete levels with large values of the angular moment
um l. The lifetimes of quasistationary states in the hump increase wit
h increasing l, i.e., with increasing excitation of the state. Energie
s and lifetimes of the quasistationary states are calculated numerical
ly on the basis of selected parameter values. (C) 1994 American Instit
