OBSERVATION OF FINE-STRUCTURE IN THE OPTICAL-SPECTRUM OF THE FULLERENE C-70 IN A CRYSTALLINE MATRIX

A rich, narrow-line structure has been observed in emission and absorp tion spectra of molecules of the fullerene C-70 in a low-temperature c rystalline matrix. This structure is due to electronic-vibrational (T- 1 double right arrow S-0, S-1 double left right arrow S-0) and purely electronic (S-1 double left right arrow S-0) transitions between the g round state S-0 and the low-lying excited states T-1 and S-1.
