Dp. Knowles, LABORATORY DIAGNOSTIC-TESTS FOR RETROVIRUS INFECTIONS OF SMALL RUMINANTS, The Veterinary clinics of North America. Food animal practice, 13(1), 1997, pp. 1
Small ruminant retroviruses, such as ovine progressive pneumonia virus
and caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus, cause persistent infections
, therefore, serology remains the most efficient method of diagnosis.
The biology, genetic and antigenic relatedness, and primary routes of
transmission of these lentiviruses are discussed in reference to serol
ogic diagnosis. Also, the use of detection methods, such as PCR, are r
eviewed for potential use in rigorous eradication programs.
