Jd. Rowe et Ne. East, RISK-FACTORS FOR TRANSMISSION AND METHODS FOR CONTROL OF CAPRINE ARTHRITIS-ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS-INFECTION, The Veterinary clinics of North America. Food animal practice, 13(1), 1997, pp. 35
The major route of transmission of caprine-encephalitis virus (CAEV) i
s through the ingestion of CAEV-infected colostrum or milk. Less effic
ient routes of transmission are associated with prolonged contact with
infected goats and are reviewed in this article. Prevention of CAEV i
s based on the removal of kids from their dam at birth, and feeding th
e kids heat-treated colostrum and pasteurized milk until weaning. Sero
logic testing and segregation or culling of seropositive goats is nece
ssary to minimize horizontal transmission of CAEV.
