ON THE DISCRETE OPTIMAL-CONTROL PROBLEM OF COMPOSITE WALL STRUCTURES

The discrete optimal control problem of loadbearing composite walls is herein investigated. By assuming the possible directions of the appea rance of cracks as known a priori, the principle of virtual work for t he discrete static optimal control problem of the composite wall struc ture under consideration can be formulated as a static hemivariational inequality. The latter represents the state relation of the discrete optimal control problem of composite walls. By defining for the proble m at hand a suitable performance index, the discrete optimal control p roblem can be put in the form of an optimization problem with as subsi diary condition a discrete hemivariational inequality which can be num erically treated by applying an appropriate smoothing procedure.
