This paper presents an unconventional approach to design of an adaptiv
e digital PLD (proportional integral derivative) controller for multiv
ariable plants, which includes two parts: a fast online recursive iden
tifier to provide updated model parameters of the plant and a genetic
tuner, which is based on artificial genetic algorithms, to tune on-lin
e the parameter matrices of the controller. An example is presented to
show the effectiveness of the approach.
