Abstract
The decay of an ion density discontinuity in a collisionless plasma is considered when allowance is made for the effect of ion temperature o n the process. A proper rarefaction wave is given. It is shown that th e process can be described without recourse to complicated computation s. The theoretical, numerical and experimental results are found to be in reasonable agreement.
