Effects of parental acceptance or rejection of a proposed aversive beh
avioral intervention on treatment acceptability ratings were investiga
ted. Results suggest that parental acceptance or rejection of the prop
osed intervention significantly affected treatment acceptability ratin
gs. The issue of a client's right to effective treatment versus the ri
ght to be free of a restrictive or aversive intervention was the domin
