Abstract
YbBa2Cu3O7-x (Yb123) bulk superconductors were prepared by a melt grow th process under various oxygen partial pressures. The microstructure of melt-processed Yb123 was observed by scanning electron microscopy a nd optical microscopy. T-c and critical current density (J(c)) were me asured with a SQUID magnetometer. The size of Yb2BaCuO5 particles in t he YbBa2Cu3O7-x phase was about 1 to 10 mu m. The melt processed Yb123 sample showed T-c(onset) of 91.5 K and J(c) of 50,000 A/cm(2) at 77 K and 0 T.
