Hc. Gelens et al., REACTIVE AMYLOIDOSIS IN A PUPPY, ASSOCIATED WITH A CHRONIC INFLAMMATORY SYNDROME, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 30(6), 1994, pp. 529-532
Generalized amyloid protein A (AA) amyloidosis was diagnosed in a 12-w
eek-old puppy which had been presented for intermittent lethargy, feve
r, and reluctance to walk. Diagnosis was made by histological examinat
ion of biopsies taken during exploratory laparotomy and was confirmed
by necropsy. The primary cause was an underlying chronic inflammatory
syndrome, most likely originating from chronic endocarditis, inducing
protracted acute-phase phenomena.
