Ja. Hogendoorn et al., EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY OF THE ABSORPTION OF ACID GASES IN POROUS PARTICLES IMPREGNATED WITH AQUEOUS ALKANOLAMINE SOLUTIONS, Chemical Engineering Science, 49(20), 1994, pp. 3421-3438
In the present study the absorption behaviour and the equilibria of CO
2 and H2S in porous alpha-and gamma-alumina particles impregnated with
inert solutions and alkanolamine solutions were investigated. From th
e equilibrium data it could be concluded that for CO2 and H2S also ads
orption on the internal surface of liquid filled gamma-alumina particl
es occurs. The experimental absorption rate data were compared with th
eoretical data obtained with an absorption model, which describes the
mass transport accompanied by chemical reaction in porous particles im
pregnated with reactive solutions. The CO2 and H2S alkanolamine data n
ecessary for this model were taken from literature, while the tortuosi
ty and porosity were experimentally determined. The model could descri
be the experimentally observed absorption rates satisfactorily. Discre
pancies mainly occurred for the process conditions where equilibrium w
as approached. These deviations probably must be attributed to the cal
culation of the equilibrium compositions (no correction for non-ideali
ties) and the accuracy of the available thermodynamic data.
