An antigenic oligosaccharide fraction derived from the lipopolysacchar
ide of Leptospira interrogans serovar pomona nas isolated by endo-glyc
osidase H digestion and column chromatography. The oligosaccharide con
tained rhamnose, ribose, glucose, and glucosamine and inhibited the bi
nding of opsonic, protective monoclonal antibodies directed against th
e lipopolysaccharide. When conjugated to diphtheria toroid, the oligos
accharide elicited the production of agglutinating, opsonic antibodies
