Yh. Mei et Gd. Mendenhall, 9,9'-BIS(FLUORENYLIDENE) AND TETRA-N-HEPTYLAMMONIUM IODIDE FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF OZONE CONCENTRATIONS IN ORGANIC MEDIA, Analytical chemistry, 69(6), 1997, pp. 1019-1022
The two title compounds were shown to be useful reagents for determina
tion of ozone and peroxides in organic media and at temperatures as lo
w as -78 degrees C. 9,9'-Bis(fluorenylidene) is a highly colored hydro
carbon whose quantitative disappearance upon reaction with ozone can b
e followed spectrophotometrically. Tetra-n-heptylammonium iodide, a no
nhygroscopic organic-soluble iodide, reacts quantitatively with ozone
and peroxidic materials yielding iodine, which can be measured by the
usual methods, Reaction and measurement conditions for both systems we
re also studied.
