S. Bombosch et W. Dedek, ON A STRATEGY TO CONTROL IPS-TYPOGRAPHUS AT THE BEGINNING OF A GRADATION, Allgemeine Forst- und Jagdzeitung, 165(10-11), 1994, pp. 185-192
A new strategy for combatting Ips typographus is described. It consist
s of an early application (end of March/beginning of April) of a syste
mic insecticide to standing spruce trees in a southern or western expo
sure, the application of pheromone to these stems when flight starts a
nd the punctual removal of infested untreated trees. These measures to
combat the 1st generation can reduce the damage caused by the 2nd gen
eration to a very low level (tab. 3 and 7). The factors upon which the
success of this strategy depends are examined.
