P. Jacobson et al., PROPOFOL, THIOPENTAL SODIUM AND FENTANYL EFFECTS ON PATIENT RECOVERY FROM ANESTHESIA, Regulatory peptides, 54(1), 1994, pp. 133-134
We evaluated retrospectively propofol and thiopental sodium combined w
ith fentanyl effects on patient recovery from anesthesia after ambulat
ory surgery. Our results show that 92% of the patients in propofol gro
up have no recollection of the procedures and have no nausea or vomiti
ng. The patients under thiopental and fentanyl were less satisfied. Su
rgeon's rating of propofol effect on patient was also significantly hi
gher than thiopental and fentanyl. The stay in recovery room was signi
ficantly shorter in the propofol group. We conclude that propofol is s
uperior to thiopental sodium and fentanyl for the outpatient anestheti
c-surgical procedures.
