Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) is included on the List of Priority Substan
ces to be assessed under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Ba
sed on available data, DBP is ''unclassifiable with respect to carcino
genicity in humans''. The estimated total average daily intakes of DBP
for the various age groups in the general population in Canada, based
on limited data, are 13 to 33 times less than the tolerable daily int
ake derived on the basis of data from bioassays in animal species.
