J. Podlaha et al., HYDROPHOBIC FERROCENE DERIVATIVES AS POTENTIAL STANDARDS IN ELECTROCHEMISTRY, Collection of Czechoslovak Chemical Communications, 62(2), 1997, pp. 185-198
Ferrocene (FcH) derivatives monosubstituted by palmitoyl (1), hexadecy
l (2), 1-adamantoyl (3) or 1-adamantylmethyl (4) groups were sythesize
d and characterized by NMR, mass and Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy, The
structure of 1-adamantoylferrocene was determined by single-crystal X
-ray diffraction. Cyclic voltammetry on gold and glass-like carbon ele
ctrodes demonstrated that the compounds can serve as electrochemical s
tandards for special cases since their ferrocene/ferricinium redox pot
ential remains stable and reversible, while the properties such as sol
ubility, diffusion coefficients and surface tension are strongly solve
nt-dependent.
