An improved technique for radioembolisation of non-resectabIe liver tu
mours is described. (90)Yttrium-labelled Bio-Rex-70 particles which sh
ow high stability and good tissue tolerance are applied superselective
ly via the tumour-feeding artery using a microcatheter The procedure i
ncludes both diagnostic and therapeutic angiography. Angiography is co
mplemented by angioscintigraphy (Tc-99m-MAP) and an i.v. Tc-99m-colloi
d scan of the liver. Thus it is possible pretherapeutically to evaluat
e tumour volume and dose distribution both in and outside of the liver
, and in the lung due to shunt. These estimates were re-evaluated post
therapeutically. Radioembolisation can thus be quantified and the dose
s absorbed by the tumour as well as the liver and lung can be calculat
ed.
