Ferromagnesian olivine, one of the most common minerals in the solar s
ystem, has been widely regarded as a continuous solid solution, althou
gh several thermodynamic analyses have suggested the possibility of a
miscibility gap at low temperatures. Natural ferromagnesian olivine fr
om the Divnoe meteorite contains compositionally different exsolution
lamellae, providing direct evidence far the existence of a miscibility
gap in iron-magnesium olivine solid solutions.
