Abstract
The cold acclimation capacity of two potato cultivars (CON 825 and CON 1000) from the Chilean germplasm (Germoplasma Chilote, X(a) Region, C hile) collection was studied. Cultivar CON 825 had a higher resistance to frost in the field than CON 1000. Only CON 825 showed acclimation capacity, after cold treatment. The acclimation capacity was associate d with an increase in free proline (1056.5%), carbohydrates (294.5%), sterols (54.1%) and soluble protein (37.8%). No increases in phospho, galactolipids, and unsaturated fatty acids in response to cold were fo und.
