We use a modified Hartree approximation to study the spontaneous magne
tization of a finite system of anyons in cylindrical geometry, treatin
g the anyons in the effective mass approximation. We find that, as a f
unction of system size, the magnetic moment has oscillatory structure
due to the invariance of the energy upon addition of an integer number
of Chern-Simons flux quanta, and large, abrupt jumps due to repopulat
ion of Landau levels. We compare our results with the exact diagonaliz
ation studies by Canright and Johnson on a lattice in a similar geomet
ry.
