Abstract
The interaction between free electrons and a laser field in a limitles s dielectric medium and above the surface of a dielectric waveguide is discussed. The investigation is based both on classical and on quantu m approaches. The possibilities of electron-beam modulation and polari sation are also discussed. The theories of the Cherenkov laser and the Cherenkov klystron are developed.
