Senior surgeons of the Society of Surgical Oncology were surveyed conc
erning their followup practices for patients with colon and breast can
cer and compared them with the recommendations in the current literatu
re. Intensive follow-up is not indicted for patients with breast cance
r patients and all surgeons agree by using physical examination and ma
mmograms predominantly Colon cancer follow-up was variable and the lit
erature indicates a small survival advantage for intensive followup. (
