The paper presents a case of leucosis in an equine surgery. Main sympt
oms were chronic weight loss for weeks, reduced health with poor condi
tion and moderate fever. The blood leucocyte count was 22,500/mul with
about 70 percent of lymphocytes. Splenomegally was found upon rectal
examination and confirmed by ultrasound scanning. A sudden worsening o
f the condition necessitated laparotomy and following exstirpation of
a significantly enlarged spleen with a weight of 18.5 kg. The pathohis
tological examination of the spleen showed diffuse infiltration with l
ymphoblastoid cells and nearly no follicle remaining structures. The f
indings indicated a lymphatical leucosis. The horse was euthanized.
