Abstract
A new class of structure is found to possess photonic band gaps, and i t contains most of the previously known photonic band gap structures a s its subsets. We will also present some results concerning the EM wav e eigenstates of structures with structural defects and the transmissi on characteristics of periodic materials with one component being disp ersive and absorbing.
