Pf. Stratton, THE USE OF NON-CRYOGENICALLY-GENERATED NITROGEN TO INHIBIT THE OXIDATION OF FERROUS MATERIALS DURING HEAT-TREATMENT, Heat treatment of metals, 21(4), 1994, pp. 79-83
BOC have conducted an extensive comparison of the oxidation behaviour
of a variety of steels in air and in non-cryogenic nitrogen without ad
ditions. On the basis of the results described, the author makes an ec
onomic case for employing the latter to inhibit oxidation in heat trea
tments carried out at temperatures above 800-degrees-C.
