Abstract
An option to traditional generated atmospheres, nitrogen-hydrogen mixt ures are employed to sinter carbon-bearing steel PM components with co nsistent quality, close dimensional tolerances and good wear resistanc e. However, careful selection and control of optimum gas composition i s necessary to minimise surface decarburisation and hardness loss.
