The results of studies of the interaction of Fe-Ti alloys in an NH3 at
mosphere under mechanical alloying are reported. It was found that mec
hanical alloying in an NH3 atmosphere ensures the formation of metasta
ble phases. Annealing of the metastable phases, depending on their nit
rogen content, results in the formation of intermetallic compounds or
nitrides. The formation of nitrides in Fe-Ti alloys ensures the preser
vation of fine ferrite grains and high hardness after 2 h of treatment
at a temperature of 1563 K.
