Kinematic viscosities near the melting point of Fe80-xCrxB15Si5 and Fe
80CrxB15-xSi5 alloys containing up to 8 at.% Cr were determined using
an oscillating crucible viscosimeter. Starting from the inferred value
s of the melting temperatures and the Donald-Davies parameter, the gla
ss-forming abilities of these alloys are discussed. The critical cooli
ng rate for the amorphization of Fe80B15Si5 was calculated using the m
easured viscosity near the melting point and was found to be valid for
Fe80-xCrxB15Si5 alloys too.
