Abstract
This study examined mood in 54 ambulatory nursing home residents. Fema le subjects reported significantly lower scores on the Anger-Hostility subscale than either men or normative subjects. Women also scored low er than normative subjects on the Vigor-Activity and Confusion-Bewilde rment subscales, whereas men scored lower on the Fatigue-Inertia subsc ale. Both men and women reported below norm scores for the Tension-Anx iety subscale. Further study is needed to identify sociological factor s that may explain diminished expression of mood in this vulnerable po pulation, and to compare these findings with the mood profile of commu nity dwelling elders.
