Biological resources on the World-Wide Web system are predominantly us
ed for (1) site presentation, (2) data query and searching in common d
atabases of biological relevance, (3) presentation of special data col
lections, (4) teaching, and (5) implementation of novel methods of inf
ormation browsing. The workshop session included the presentation of s
everal specific servers, and some general discussion on possible devel
opments. One of the conclusions was to create a specific newsgroup, wh
ich has been achieved as bionet.software.www, gated into the BIOSCI el
ectronic mail system and a www server[4{.
