I. Eli et al., EFFECT OF PARAPULPAL PINS ON CONSERVATIVE RESTORATION OF PULPLESS PREMOLARS, The Journal of prosthetic dentistry, 72(6), 1994, pp. 577-581
Conservative restoration of pulpless premolars with composite resins i
s indicated in specific instances. The effect of parapulpal pins on ma
rginal leakage and fracture resistance was evaluated in this in vitro
study for composite resin restorations in 80 extracted, pulpless premo
lars. Conservatively prepared pulpless premolars restored with composi
te resin were resistant to occlusal forces and parapulpal pins were ef
fective in reducing gingival marginal microleakage. Parapulpal pins si
gnificantly improved the marginal seal of composite resin restorations
in pulpless teeth when the gingival margins of the restoration were p
laced in dentin.
