Abstract
A homologous series of chiral trans-4-alkoxycyclohexylpyrimidines were synthesized and their mesomorphic properties were evaluated with a DS C and a polarizing microscope. It was found that the presence of a tra ns-1,4-disubstituted cyclohexane ring strongly promoted the formation of the SB phase and seems to suppress the formation of the chiral smec tic C (Sc) phase.
