Jr. Dryden et al., SOLID-STATE EXTRUSION AS A MECHANICAL TEST METHOD, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 188(1-2), 1994, pp. 81-90
Plane strain extrusion has been used to generate large tensile strains
that would not be possible to achieve in a uniaxial test. The deforma
tion has been analysed by assuming that the plastic strain occurs by s
liding at a small angle relative to the stress characteristics. Calcul
ations to find the amount of permanent dilation are compared with the
experimental data. The results of the extrusion are consistent with pr
evious tests on uniaxial specimens that were strained at low levels.
