Abstract
In this paper, two methods, namely the equilibrium constant method and the thermodynamic method, for calculating the chemical driving force for the nucleation of complex carbonitrides in austenite of multicompo nent microalloyed steels are presented and compared. The results show that there exists an obvious difference between the chemical driving f orces calculated by the two different methods, and that the difference increases with decreasing temperature.
