Fp. Smith, ARCHIVAL CORRESPONDENCE REGARDING THE ORIGIN OF THE HARVEY-CUSHING-SOCIETY - THE AMERICAN-ASSOCIATION-OF-NEUROLOGICAL-SURGEONS, Journal of neurosurgery, 81(6), 1994, pp. 950-955
Behind the scenes in the origin of the Harvey Cushing Society, now kno
wn as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, there were ma
ny interesting political factors occurring, which appeared in correspo
ndence and were preserved and later forwarded by William P. Van Wagene
n to the Harvey Cushing Section of the Yale Medical Library. This corr
espondence, circa 1931, provides an interesting account of the aspirat
ions of young neurosurgeons who wished to gain societal status, withou
t offending the giants of the Society of Neurological Surgeons.
