V. Dimov et al., AUTOMATED IDENTIFICATION OF MONOCRYSTAL MICROPHASES IN TRANSMISSION ELECTRON-MICROSCOPY (TEM), Computers & geosciences, 20(9), 1994, pp. 1267-1273
A comprehensive analysis of the problem of automatic identification of
monocrystal microphases by experimental Electron Diffraction Patterns
(EDP) in combination with energy dispersive spectroscopic analysis of
thin sections in TEM is presented. A universal computerized method fo
r identification, using a modified database, containing chemical and c
rystallographic data of a great number of minerals and phases, is disc
ussed. A special organization of the chemical information in data file
s allows fast identification by the elemental composition of the sampl
e. The EDP is identified by analytical comparison of the geometry of i
ts point-grid with a theoretically built point-grid. A mathematical me
thod for limiting and minimizing the variations of the input data, inc
luding the effects of Ewalds's sphere, is derived.
