Here we review epidemiological studies of the occurrence of gastric ca
ncer in patients treated for peptic ulcer disease by partial gastrecto
my, vagotomy or by medical treatment. Twenty or 30 years after partial
gastrectomy, the relative risk of gastric cancer is about two- to fiv
e-fold. It is uncertain whether peptic ulcer treatments, other than pa
rtial gastrectomy, are associated with an increased risk of gastric ca
ncer.
