Abstract
The wave forms of motion of a thin infinite shell of revolution define d by initial displacements and velocities localized in the neighbourho od of a parallel are studied. Using the method developed in [1], a sol ution of the equations of motion is constructed as a superposition of tangential and flexural wave packets propagating in the direction of t he shell axis. As an example, an elongated conical shell is considered . (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
