Abstract
Multidimensional scaling analysis was used to investigate the underlyi ng dimensional structure of 21 third-party conflict management strateg ies derived from the literature. Whereas Elangovan's (1995) prescripti ve model of managerial third-party dispute intervention included strat egies that varied along the dimensions of process and outcome control, the present study identified two dimensions that were labelled Avoid versus Approach Conflict and Participative versus Autocratic. The impl ications of such a dimensional structure for Elangovan's model are dis cussed.
