Dj. Perettie et al., PERFLUOROCYCLOBUTANE CONTAINING AROMATIC ETHER POLYMERS AS PLANARIZATION MATERIALS FOR ALTERNATIVE MAGNETIC MEDIA SUBSTRATES, Journal of applied physics, 76(10), 1994, pp. 6579-6581
Perfluorocyclobutane aromatic ether polymers (PFCB) are being research
ed as planarization materials for alternative magnetic media substrate
s allowing smoother surfaces for lower head flying recording. The resu
lts of current work reported herein have shown that PFCB can be used t
o affect surfaces on canasite with R(A)'s less than 2 nm. In addition,
magnetic media can be produced of a quality comparative to that obtai
ned on standard NiP-coated Al as well as that produced on regular cana
site with equivalent coercivities at about 1500-1600 Oe and squareness
es of 0.8 or better. In addition to the above magnetic properties the
recording performance was excellent with signal-to-noise ratios of pla
narized media 3.5 dB higher than that on regular canasite.
