Abstract
An analytical treatment of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida polarizat ion in inhomogeneous media is possible for some simple models. This is exemplified with the half-spaces and slabs in one and three dimension s, and with an especially chosen potential barrier in one dimension.
