Abstract
Magnetization and magnetostriction in amorphous binary TbFe and DyFe a nd amorphous and polycrystalline, ternary (TbxD1-x)(y)Fe-100-y thin fi lms have been investigated. The measurements reflect the compositional dependence of the easy direction of magnetization in the films. In pl ane magnetostrictions of over 300X10(-6) were measured for some of the amorphous TbFe and TbDyFe films and values greater than 750x10(-6) we re obtained in polycrystalline TbDyFe films near to the Terfenol compo sition.
