Duplications of the alimentary tract are rare. Most of them are diagno
sed during infancy or childhood, when they become symptomatic and a pa
lpable mass is found. Major complications are bleeding, perforation, i
leus and pancreatitis. In the majority of cases the gastrointestinal d
uplication is localized in the small bowel. Correct preoperative diagn
osis by means of imaging techniques is rare. Because there is no malig
nancy surgery is only necessary in symptomatic cases.
