Abstract
A Raman scattering investigation of the piezoelectric compound BaZnF4 has been performed in a wide temperature range. An accurate study of t he characteristics, i.e. peak shifts, integrated intensities and half- widths, reveals anomalous changes in several spectral lines. The resul ts are discussed on the basis of a breakdown of the q = 0 selection ru les due to either a phase transition or structural disorder.
