Abstract
Means for assessing the performance of feedback-only and combined feed forward/feedback control using routine operating data are described. A n analysis of variance is developed which decomposes the process varia nce by disturbance and by controller, allowing tile existing controlle r's performance to be compared with a benchmark of minimum variance co ntrol. Industrial data are used ro demonstrate the utility of the meth ods described.
