Abstract
This study described the synthesis of soluble polymers carrying fuller oid pendant groups. The starting monomer 4,4'-difluorodiphenyl fullero id (FPh)2C61 was synthesized and polycondensed with aromatic diamine s ulfone to give poly(4,4'-diphenyl-C61 amines) or with aromatic dialcoh ol sulfone to give poly(4,4'-diphenyl-C61 ethers). Polycondensation wa s carried out in different solvents with and without catalyst. Soluble polymers having an average molecular weight in the range M(w) = (5-20 ) x 10(3) were obtained. Molecular structural characterization of mono mer and of fullerene moiety in the polymers was achieved by NMR, infra red, and UV-visible spectroscopies, mass spectrometry, and thermal ana lysis.
