The effect of high alpha-particle fluence on plastic detector CR-39 wa
s studied by measuring the electrical properties of the detector as a
function of irradiation dose and frequency using an impedance meter in
the frequency range 0.005-500 kHz. When the plastic detector CR-39 is
exposed to high irradiation doses, it loses its advantage as a track
detector, because of the overlapping of the tracks occurring in the de
tector at high irradiation fluence. Through the present measurements o
f dielectric permittivity and conductivity at different frequencies an
d temperatures, CR-39 could be used as a dosimeter for high irradiatio
n doses.
