TAXONOMIC NOTES ON THE GENUS ZANTEDESCHIA SPRENG (ARACEAE) IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

A taxonomic re-assessment of Zantedeschia revealed that Z. albomaculat a subsp. valida is markedly distinct from Z. albomaculata subsp. albom aculata and Z. albomacutata subsp. macrocarpa. Differences in morpholo gy proved to be sufficient to exclude it from the Z. albomaculata comp lex, and to recognize it at specific level as Z. valida. The history o f the classification of Z. albomaculata is briefly reviewed. This stud y further supports the delimitation of species into two sections: Zant edeschia and Aestivae. A key to sections, species and subspecies, base d on macromorphology and geographical distribution, is presented.
