Abstract
Vinyl chloride as a compound with carcinogenic and mutagenic effects c onstitutes a high hazard to persons exposed to it in its production an d polymerization processing to the well known plastics - poly(vinyl ch loride). Considering this hazard the efficient metabolites are chloroo xirane and chloroacetaldehyde, or its oxidation product - monochloroac etic acid. To check the individual exposure to vinyl chloride, the use of passive dosimeters or following the concentration of the main meta bolite - thio-diglycolic acid - in urine are most suitable. Modern met hods of determining cyclic adducts induced in DNA by the efficient met abolites will contribute to the knowledge of interactions of chemical substances with biological systems.
